Chalkboard Sugar Cookies!

Chalkboard Sugar Cookies!

These are so cute and a really fun gift for teacher appreciation!
Sugar Cookies!

These ones don't spread when they bake...they are crisp and
a little flavorless...but great with frosting!

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix, separate into 2 balls...press into disks...and place in a Ziploc bag
and set in the fridge for 2 hours...or the freezer for about 20 minutes.
Then remove, roll out on the floured surface and bake 325 for about 12 minutes.
Mix up some royal icing.
This stuff is made with egg whites and not water...so it forms
a crisp sweet glaze that dries hard and shiny.  It is so fun to decorate with...
but I had a horrible time with it in the humid south...it just won't set up there!  Sorry!
Royal icing:
3 egg whites
2 cups of powdered sugar
1 drop of essential oil flavoring (I used citrus bliss)
food coloring (I used black)
Then put a sandwich zip baggie in a cup with the corner at the bottom like this
